I opened the doors to my very own insurance agency on September 1, 2018 after years of hard work in the insurance industry. Just one month later, Hurricane Michael changed our community forever. It changed lives, destroyed homes, and shaped the type of insurance agent and leader I was going to become. That storm taught me insurance is about so much more than policies and premiums. It is about people during some of the hardest moments of their lives. It is about answering the phone, showing up, and standing beside your customers when everything around them feels uncertain. Showing up was never an option to me. It was a responsibility. I will never forget the devastation, heartbreak, or resilience our community showed after Hurricane Michael. Watching people rebuild their lives created a fire in me to build an agency that truly cares and a team that understands the importance of being there when customers need us most. I have shared my Hurricane Michael experience on conference calls and stages across the country because I never want agents to forget the heart behind what we do. At minimum, we show up. But we should always show up with passion, compassion, urgency, and dedication. Price matters, but so does the agent standing beside you and advocating for you when life changes in an instant. As we enter hurricane season, I pray we never experience another Hurricane Michael in our lifetime.
